New tennis needle punched carpets in London

New needle punched carpets in under two weeks for Our Lady of Muswell Hill Lawn Tennis Club

It’s a point of pride for the ETC Sport Surfaces team that we enjoy so many longstanding relationships with our customers. In the case of Our Lady of Muswell Hill Lawn Tennis Club, that relationship has been going strong for 25 years now. The fact that they rely on us to resurface and maintain all their tennis courts’ needle punched carpets is testimony to the quality of our sports surfaces, workmanship and customer service. Our latest resurfacing project for them is no different. In May 2019, we were asked to re-lay two of their courts with Matchplay 2 needle punched, sand dressed surfaces from our manufacturing partners at Playrite. We’re delighted to confirm that this project, which has received great feedback from club members, was delivered with all practical works completed in just nine days!

Why choose a Matchplay 2 carpet?

Whenever a customer asks us to help them rejuvenate their tennis court surfaces, we always ensure that we identify just the right product for their situation, membership and levels of play. In the case of Our Lady of Muswell Hill LTC, their packed tennis schedule caters for all abilities – from occasional social play to junior league, mixed and veteran’s tennis. There’s also a strong competitor’s programme, with club teams regularly entering the Slazenger League, AEGON Team Tennis League and Middlesex Cup Competition. In addition, the club hosts an annual Lawn Tennis Association sanctioned tournament welcoming more than 200 competitors, plus weekday American tournaments during the summer and a floodlit league in the winter.

That’s a punishing schedule for any tennis court! This high performance, uniquely hardwearing edition of Playrite’s needle punched carpets was the ideal choice for this situation, thanks to its durability, consistency and porosity, which caters for play, coaching and competition at all ability levels, as well as delivering optimum weather resistance.

Matchplay 2 can also be finished in a choice of eight attractive colours to suit the customer’s taste. In this case, the club’s committee – represented by Treasurer, Richard Betts – chose a beautiful sporting green finish, resulting in the pleasing look and feel associated with traditional grass tennis courts, but with the hardwearing and consistent performance that players expect from modern court facilities.

What are the benefits of needle punched surfaces for tennis?

With so many types of tennis courts on the market, deciding on which surface is right for your facility can be confusing. We always take the time to perform a free consultation and site survey, applying our thirty years’ expertise to select the most suitable tennis court surfaces for every customer.

Manufactured from layers of polymer fibres, the needle punch technique delivers a hardwearing surface that drains in under thirty minutes after wet weather. The Matchplay 2 edition also features a sand dressed infill, which does not compact and therefore ensures consistent cushioning that’s guaranteed for at least ten years with only occasional brushing maintenance.

For a busy club like Our Lady of Muswell Hill LTC, this combination of performance, quality, consistency and affordability makes Playrite’s needle punched carpets the ideal solution. In fact, during our 25 years of looking after their venue, we have been contracted to resurface all their courts with Matchplay. We know from Richard’s feedback that they’re delighted with the results. “We have enjoyed a fruitful relationship with ETC Sports Surfaces for over 25 years,” he said recently. “In that time, we have had all of our tennis courts re-laid with Playrite’s Matchplay 2 carpets. ETC’s project manager oversees all the work, making regular site visits and ensuring that all works are carried out in a timely and professional manner. This latest resurfacing project again went smoothly, and we have had excellent comments from club members. We would not hesitate to recommend them to other tennis clubs.”
