New Tennis Court Surfaces for Greenwood Park Lawn Tennis Club

ETC Sports Surfaces breathes new life into Greenwood Park Lawn Tennis Club tennis court surfaces

Britain’s passion for tennis has been enhanced in recent years by Andy Murray’s Olympic success, and ETC Sports is proud to be at the forefront of tennis court construction and resurfacing. Recently, we have been delighted to work with Greenwood Park Lawn Tennis Club to fully resurface three of their flagship courts for the benefit of local residents, who have responded to the new facilities with huge enthusiasm.

The brief was to resurface the three courts with Playrite Matchplay II carpet, an artificial sports grass surface that offers a hardwearing alternative to natural grass for all year round play. Works started on the 3rd March 2014 and were completed by July 2014 – an impressive turnaround for a large contract of this kind!

Why choose needlepunch turf for tennis surfaces?

For a busy tennis club like Greenwood Park, tennis court surfaces face a lot of wear and tear throughout the year. Needlepunch turf provides a tough and durable solution, without affecting quality of play. It meets the requirements set by the ITF (International Tennis Federation) and requires comparatively little maintenance compared to some other sport court surfaces. That’s why Greenwood Park chose this particular product to provide a surface that players will love to play on, as well as a cost-effective solution for the club.

How the new tennis surfaces are being received

The club launched its newly resurfaced facilities with a bang, inviting the Mayor of St Albans, Annie Brewster, to open the club and test out play for herself. After the opening ceremony the Mayor took to the courts, showing off her racket skills on the new tennis surfaces and clearly embracing the opportunity! Afterwards, she told the local press that she was “delighted to see the Olympic legacy alive and thriving here at Greenwood Park”.

More than 200 onlookers turned out to cheer her on and join the opening ceremony, and the new synthetic surfaces seem to have stirred quite an interest. Representing the club, David Thompson commented: “The courts are proving to be so popular that now members are tending to wait for one to become free, rather than play on the other courts. ETC Sports were an excellent company to work with and their team of installers couldn’t have been more helpful. The work was scheduled to take five and a half days but a storm was forecast for the fifth day, so they worked into the evenings to get everything completed in four days!”

A commitment to ongoing synthetic sports surface maintenance

We always pride ourselves on delivering sports surface solutions that leave clients this delighted. So we’re very happy to have been retained by Greenwood Park to care for their new tennis courts for at least the next 5 years. Whilst the maintenance of tennis court surfaces is relatively straightforward, it’s important that regular attention is paid to artificial grass surfaces to ensure that they fulfil their life span and continue to deliver high quality performance.

Our tried and tested method of maintaining tennis court surfaces includes moss spraying and removal as well as de-compacting to restore the artificial grass to its full glory. Investing in regular maintenance is a wise strategy to keep keen tennis players interested in your facility, and make sure they return time and again to enjoy their favourite sport.

We’re thrilled to have delivered such a successful sports surfacing project for Greenwood Park. If you are planning a tennis court construction, re-surfacing programme of any other type of sports pitch build, repair or maintenance, contact us. We’ll be happy to discuss the project and conduct a no obligation site survey to establish exactly the right package for your facility.
