Boosting Sports Opportunities for Alleyn Court Preparatory School

Boosting sports opportunities for Alleyn Court Preparatory School

Here at ETC Sports we always love to witness a client’s delight at their brand new MUGA Construction. In particular, nothing makes us happier than being able to support children’s physical health and education by equipping their school with a MUGA that will serve them for decades to come.

That’s why we’re so proud to have completed a fabulous, fun and fully functional Multi Use Games Area for Alleyn Court Preparatory School, a co-educational school for pupils aged from 2 to 11 years. The school prides itself on the provision of excellent sporting opportunities. Its numerous facilities include football, rugby, hockey, cricket and athletics – and now, with our help, it has added state-of-the-art new tennis and netball pitches to its portfolio.

Providing sports surface solutions for the next generation

Our role in this project was to breathe new life into the school’s existing facilities by resurfacing two existing tennis courts and surrounding them with brand new MUGA Fencing. The main bulk of the works were completed in just one month, before we re-sprayed the surfaces. Unusually, the school chose a combination of blue and pink surfaces to complement their official school colours, making for a fun and unusual MUGA construction!

As Headmaster Mr Gareth Davies has pointed out, the pitches have been designed to reflect the official style of the courts at London 2012, adding “they make a stunning visual impact on entry to the Wakering Road site and I would imagine can be seen from many of the planes flying into Southend Airport”.

The importance of multi use games areas for schools

These types of sports surfaces are particularly popular for schools because of their multiple benefits. When space is at a premium, a well-designed M.U.G.A. gives schools the flexibility to cater for different sporting interests and abilities within a packed timetable. They are tough, durable and require comparatively little maintenance, making them a cost-effective choice. What’s more, they can often double up as an income generating facility, giving schools the option of renting them out to local clubs outside of school hours.

For the ETC Sports team, it’s always rewarding to deliver a sports surface of the highest quality in a school. Seeing the next generation’s sporting potential come alive is fantastic, and knowing that we have played a key role in making that happen is a truly rewarding part of our job.

What the client said about the new MUGA

The school is thrilled with their new facility, which was officially opened on the 10th September by Mr David Hanson, Chief Executive Officer of the influential Independent Association of Preparatory Schools (IAPS). According to Toby Duffin, the school’s bursar, our performance has been highly satisfactory. “From quotation stage through to signing-off, ETC were a pleasure to work with” he says. “It was an initial concern having the work done during term time but, once on site, the ETC site team had no impact on the day to day life of the school. ETC’s site manager and team were approachable, safe, tidy, and kept the school updated at every stage of the build. Our unusual colour scheme choice was no challenge for ETC, providing the school with an extremely high quality, striking playing surface. The level of service only encouraged us to enter into an on-going relationship with ETC, in terms of future developments and on-going maintenance of our surfaces.”

There’s no doubt about it, this is definitely one of our favourite projects this year! We wish the pupils of Alleyn Court every success in their sporting endeavours, and hope to have the pleasure of working with them again in the near future.
